Stefa Govaart

Cocks Had

_Cocks Had is a performative reading by Stefa Govaart that flirts with language, not in its presumed neutrality as a means of communication but as a tool of enjoyment. In Cocks Had, Govaart probes the audience’s and their own anticipatory feelings/facts/thoughts as far as critiques of capitalism and queer antinormativity are concerned. Employing fragments from the reaction-heavy dailiness of social media, and their own theoretical practice, Govaart moves us from the question of “who is enjoying?” to “what is enjoying?”, asking us to consider the links between our own affective lives and systemic enjoyment under capitalism._

When an experience is beautiful, you pay for it because you have been fed by it. No one masters their experience, but you won’t admit how it depletes you. Bezos didn’t feed himself when he was born. I’m so glad you captured the mood of my work.

What’s the charge of experience? The law asks you, Insta asks you, poets ask you, I ask you. Does anyone have the capacity to be sustained by something that isn’t brute cash? Can’t you just face what you already know:

coins intervene
cocks precede
banks lie
money is dead, metaphysical, and as alive as it gets.

“I wonder if they have cash. Now I am connected to everything”. Poverty is cyclical: permanence equals change equals permanence equals change. Boom bust boom bust. Who can say the same thing twice richly, not poorly?

I got it free and for nothing.
